Many different lifestyles fit within a housing company. When living there, please consider your neighbors and avoid unnecessary noise, especially during quiet hours. However, everyone must tolerate normal sounds of everyday life from both sides.
Examples of normal household sounds include:
- The sounds of visitors calling in
- A dog barking indoors occasionally
- Showering, even late at night
- Children playing early in the morning
- Listening to music and playing instruments for a few hours per day
- TV sounds louder than usual, for example due to impaired hearing
If the disruptive activity is continuous and recurring, your first step should be to contact your neighbor directly. Often, simply having a conversation is enough, as the neighbor may not realize they are causing a disturbance.
If, despite everything, the disruptive behavior continues, it is advisable to record the dates and times, as well as the type of disturbance, together with a couple of neighbors. After this, contact Porvoon Kodit.
A disturbance report is a written notification about activities that disturb residential peace, such as noise or disruptive smoking. The report should describe precisely the nature, duration, time, and location (from which flat) of the disturbance, so the issue can be addressed. The person making the report will not be revealed to the person causing the disturbance but must be ready to testify if necessary. The report should specify exactly which flat the disturbance originates from. The report must include the precise time (date and hours) and a description of the nature of the disturbance – merely referring to ‘frequent disturbance’ is not sufficient. It is also advisable to mention if the authorities have intervened in the case.
We review all notifications. Please note that not all reports result in further action. We will contact the person who submitted the report if needed.
Porvoon Kodit cannot act as the police. In urgent situations, always call the emergency number 112. Please note that the police do not provide information to the landlord, so we recommend also making a disturbance report about the situation.
