Christmas brings joy and togetherness, but often also more waste than usual. With a few small actions, you can make sure your bin doesn’t overflow and recycling stays easy.
You can leave your Christmas tree beside the waste shed – we’ll take care of the trees from there.
Gift wrap and ribbons should be sorted as mixed waste, as they often contain tape and lots of colourants. Save clean gift wrap and gift bags for next year if possible.
Small bones and fish scraps go in the biowaste bin, while large bones, such as the Christmas ham bone, belong in mixed waste.
The cardboard from chocolate boxes and advent calendars should go to cardboard recycling, and plastic trays in plastic packaging recycling. Always flatten cardboard packs before recycling.
Used sparklers should be placed in metal recycling once they have cooled down.
Old New Year’s tin, made before 2018, contains lead and is hazardous waste – take it to a waste station or hazardous waste cabinet. New, lead-free tin can be placed in metal recycling.
