According to the findings, certain cement fibre boards do not on their own meet the safety requirements for balcony railings and may not be sufficient to protect people from falling.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Based on this official notice, Porvoon Kodit has initiated immediate measures to ensure the safety of our properties.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>What are we doing at the moment?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Survey of properties:<\/strong> We are currently surveying the balconies in all our properties where the structures and fall protection need to be examined.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Cooperation with authorities:<\/strong> Building control authorities are also carrying out their own independent review of the matter and guiding any necessary further actions.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>How is durability assessed?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The actual durability and safety of balcony railings are affected by several factors, the implementation and current condition of which are now being evaluated by experts. These include, among others:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The original installation method of the boards and their fastening mechanisms.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Any rear supports, or the absence of such supports.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Wear and strain on the materials caused by weather conditions and the passage of time.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Impact on residents and the use of balconies<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The investigations are progressing property by property. <strong>If a property is selected for a separate, more detailed inspection, the residents of that property will be informed separately about the use of the balcony and any possible restrictions.<\/strong> If you do not receive a separate notice, the balcony may continue to be used as normal. However, we ask everyone to exercise general caution: balcony railings or their boards should not be subjected to strong impacts or heavy leaning until the inspections have been completed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Thank you for your cooperation and patience as we work to ensure safety.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Accident Investigation Authority has published a safety risk assessment concerning cement fibre boards used in balcony railings.
